IRS says virtual greeters are real employees

In a decision which is bound to affect employment practices in virtual worlds, the IRS recently decided that virtual greeters working in Second Life are actual employees. This will require employers doing business in Second Life to withhold for federal income tax and social security. In a virtual world which values anonymity and privacy, the implications of this ruling may be significant.
